I came across a drum kit i’ve been looking for on MegaUpload but I’m not sure if it’s legal. I know downloading music and movies and all that is illegal but are drum and sound kits illegal to download.

Is it illegal to put links from Megaupload, Rapidshare or any file hosting websites to your own website?
I’m just wondering, because I made this new website and I am thinking of putting links from Megaupload or etc. on it and I was wondering if it’s illegal. Will I get sued? Or, is it okay to do that? Also the website is still a FREE website, not a Paid by month or Premium account.

I guess it’s like every movie site out there that put up videos from Youku/Tudou/Youtube/Mega – like this website: www.watch-movies-links.net
If the owner of the video finds their movie etc. on Mega/Tudou/Youtube etc they’ll just take it down from there and the video won’t be on your website anymore but if you’re just linking I don’t think you’ll get into trouble.
Is downloading music from rapidshare or megaupload illegal?
I live on campus in a residence hall, and they’ve got really strict rules on file sharing and they can take away your internet or computer if you violate them, but i’m not sure whether or not rapidshare/megaupload are legal.

My guess is that you already knew that downloading any form of music without purchase is illegal, but your real question is if you can get caught by downloading from megaupload/rapidshare
Since youre not uploading to any other users and it is a direct download it would be very difficult for the school to know what you are downloading. On the other hand, if you were getting music from bittorrent or p2p network it would be easier for the school to find out based on the traffic generated from uploads as well as connections to other users.
So you dont have much to worry about if you download content from upload sites.

I would not put the files on my hosting.
Users would post links at their own discretion. The site would not direct people to do it.
Megaupload would host all of the files.

I’m not sure but what reason would they have for making it illegal? Having the links to it is something they can do just by googling it yet google is still really really popular. It’s not like your forcing anyone to download something. Even if it was illegal, the FBI wouldn’t come after you because they’d be going after the people who actually downloaded and uploaded it.
